Weapon Evolution is a free action game that lets you evolve your weapons from simple stone age spears to futuristic laser beam rifles. In this casual game, you get to avoid obstacles, fight adversaries, and choose time-traveling gates that will upgrade your weapon or downgrade you back to the past.

Weapon Evolution is an interesting twist on the runner games that are flooding the market now such as Investment Run or Girl Runner 3D. Although it has no story or characters aside from the floating weapons, it gives players an idea of the historic progression of weaponry.

First of all, its gameplay concept is nothing new. You have a running character in a linear stage filled with upgrade or downgrade gates and obstacles. The overall aesthetic is similar to other games in this category. In this game, however, the gates are marked with years–blue for the future and red for the past–and they may either be additive or multiplicative. 

As a casual game, it has fairly easy controls from the main menu to the game itself. You only need to swipe left or right, or just tap and drag the weapons to the direction you want them to go. The game’s varying stages let you experience different starting weapons that you can then upgrade and use to eliminate enemies–from shooting arrows to swinging swords.

Like any other game in this genre, this game is also plagued by advertisements. If you’re not a fan, you will find various ads annoying, especially since they appear at the end of every other level. On the other hand, you can also use these ads to unlock additional game features faster. Lastly, players report the game crashing and freezing, especially when ads are closed prematurely.

If you’re a fan of weaponry or history in general, Weapon Evolution is a good casual game you can try to pass the time. Despite its unoriginal premise, it does make the game interesting with the range of weapons you can see and use. It leverages the genre’s cliched colors to make every element stand out. If you can tolerate frequent ads, this game is good for hours.
